UCD offers a skills conversion graduate programme for individuals who hold a primary degree in another discipline (e.g., Arts, Commerce), and would like to enter into an IT related career. This conversion MSc introduces students to computational thinking and provides a thorough foundation in the practical aspects of modern Computer Science. The Taught Masters in Computer Science by Negotiated Learning is a flexible programme that draws on a rich and varied portfolio of subjects and classes to allow students to work towards a highly personalised degree that is tailored to their individual goals and prior experience. This is a degree for students who already have a strong background in computer science, either through an undergraduate computer science degree, or a related degree together with industry experience. Software Engineering is a dynamic field where technology, techniques and processes continually evolve and fresh areas of application appear regularly. In the current climate, software engineers must continually update their skills and qualifications in order to stay competitive in the workplace and improve their career prospects in the industry. This part-time masters programme is designed for experienced software engineers who wish to advance their skillset in areas of computer science and software development that impact directly on their work. Participants are exposed to current technologies, methodologies, processes and theories as well as those still under research that may become mainstream in the future.
This masters programme is especially geared at industry-based software engineers and so is not suitable for new graduates. Read more
This programme is for students with a background in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline. It covers all aspects of digital investigations from legislation and crime scene processing to digital forensics, reverse engineering, and forensic reporting. Read more
The MSc in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation programme is one of the largest MSc programmes in UCD, with 200+ current participants and a network of graduates numbering 500+ in 60 countries. It is an international part-time MSc level programme, open to agents of any organisation which has responsibility for the enforcement of national or local legislation. Read more
UCD offers a range of degrees in Cognitive Science. The most common option is the 12 month taught masters degree, leading to either an M.A. or and M.Sc. (depending on the background of the student). Anyone interested in issues relating to the understanding of the human mind from philosophical, psychological, and computational perspectives would be well suited to this degree. Advanced computational skills are not a pre-requisite, but some familiarity with computers will be assumed. Read more
The Higher Diploma in Computer Science [ICT Skills Conversion] is suitable for individuals holding a primary degree in another discipline (e.g., Arts, Business, Social Science, etc.), seeking to convert to Computer Science. It is a 1-year full-time programme delivered over three semesters. The programme places a strong emphasis on the practical aspects of modern Computer Science and is designed to provide individuals with the appropriate skills to enter into an IT-related career. The Professional Diploma in Education Studies (Computational Thinking) is a 30 credit, part-time, Level 9 NQF programme taught jointly by the School of Education and the School of Computer Science at UCD Dublin. Read more
